Another stellar release from Cellar Live features one of the most unique players on the Canadian Jazz Scene today. Saxophonist Chad Makela has dedicated his life to the often under appreciated baritone saxophone. Makela plays the baritone saxophone with assertion and confidence but don't let that fool you into thinking it can't sound sweet. Makela extricates every possible dynamic out of the huge horn. With a stellar band backing him including heralded trumpeter Brad Turner, bassist Paul Rushka and drummer Jesse Cahill, Makela and company romp there way through an inspired set of originals as well as the standard gem 'My Ideal,' and a great rendition of a Joe Lovano tune called 'Uprising.'
